The next Future Leaders Forum held in conjunction with COCAL will take place in 2013, more details will be available later in the year.

For the fourth consecutive year the IMEX-MPI-MCI Future Leaders Forum at COCAL took place on the 13 March in the dynamic city of San Pedro Sul, Honduras. A total of 71 students represented the best from three of the main national universities from the cities of San Pedro Sula, Tegucigalpa and La Ceiba to participate in this exclusive programme. Several of these students also attended the entire conference, gaining strong practical experience and soaking up knowledge from attending the educational sessions.

The Programme

The Forum was introduced by Bertha Garcia, Secretary General of COCAL. José A. Quan, Managing Director, EVENTIA gave the students an overview of the global events industry whilst María José Alvez, CMP, Regional Director, Latin America, ICCA offered the students a holistic look at the industries’ various associations. Miguel Neves, Events and Projects Planner, IMEX Group and José A. Quan were on hand to give the students insights into the world of online and offline professional networking. The day ended with an interview of Ana María Viscasillas, ex-CEO of Puerto Rico Convention Bureau and global tourism consultant who shared her wealth of industry experience alongside Heather Gough, Sales Director, IMEX Group, who also gave the students a taste of her career achievements.

One of the highlights of the day was the “Elevator Pitch” where the students worked in groups to develop a one minute pitch of Honduras as the destination for a fictitious future event. The student who presented the winning team’s elevator pitch was Gabriel Arturo Pedroza Jones, who will receive a complimentary one-year GMIC student membership. This full day of education was very well received by the students, many of whom are now more than ever dedicated to a career in the meetings industry.
